Recently, three Caifornia Delta Phis came back from a two week excursion in Guatemala. However, this was no ordinary adventure. The adventure began with Tavish Nanda, a Phi Delt, when he had an idea to bring a new subset of Volunteers Around the World organization to the University of Southern California. After successfully establishing the USC student organization he quickly started planning a medical operation to Guatemala. Volunteers Around the World is a non-government medical organizations whose purpose is to help local villagers who do not have easy access to medical equipment by setting up mobile clinics.
This venture in Guatemala established seven mobile clinics whose purpose was to teach seminars on hygiene, first aid, and nutrition, as well as administer medications. Each participant had to raise $1,500.00 for medication before going on the trip. When Tavish inquired within California Delta as to who was willing to go with him, David Liberman and Shawn Clarke jumped at the opportunity to help. Upon return David Liberman said that the experience was “life changing” and that “there is nothing better than having your brothers by your side as you are truly changing someone’s life in a foreign country.” The brothers of California Delta want to congratulate Tavish, David, and Shawn on their great accomplishment and their true selflessness in taking the time out of their summer to accomplish this great philanthropic feat.
