This fall, the Indiana Alpha Chapter at Indiana University held their Phive K philanthropy run for ALS.
Brother Luke O’Connor was the lead organizer for the event. When asked what motivated him to build this event from the ground up, O’Connor said, “When I was elected philanthropy chair here at Indiana Alpha, my main goal was to not only help to run an event that would benefit research for ALS under my term, but to put into place something sustainable, with an opportunity to grow it into a staple event on campus. Thanks to help from numerous brothers in the house, and some inspiration from the philanthropic success of the chapter at the University of North Carolina, the chapter came up with the idea for the Phi Delt Phive K. The chapter has become very involved with Iron Phi, so hosting a 5k fun run was an easy and logical selection for the event. The chapter had a tremendous amount of fun throughout the entire process, ranging from the sale of T-shirts to the working with IUPD on race day to block off the route. Most importantly the success of this year’s Phive K has set in place a foundation that can be improved upon in years to come.”
