On October 6th, North Carolina Gamma (Davidson College) hosted the inaugural “Phi’s for G.I.’s” fundraiser. The event was held to raise money for “Support US Armed Forces”, an organization that provides for soldiers, veterans and their families when they return home. The day started with the “Military Appreciation” football game as Davidson took on Dayton. Before the game, three veterans parachuted onto the field to present the game ball.
After the game, the crowd made its way to the lawn behind the Phi Delt house for live music, food and beverages, a mechanical bull, a silent auction and many more fun activities for the Davidson community. The chapter raised over $10,000 for Support US Armed Forces in the Phi’s for G.I.’s fundraiser.
In other news, North Carolina Gamma has three brothers representing the football team as captains during the 2012 season. Brother Lanny Funsten was named Pioneer Football League Offensive Player of the Week with his 17 receptions and 246 receiving yards on Saturday vs. Jacksonville. Funsten also broke the Davidson career receptions and receiving yards records on Saturday.
In the same game, Brother Reese Williams made an incredible catch which finished #4 on the Sportscenter Top-10 Plays.
