In Aprill, Phi Delta Theta’s Texas Zeta Chapter at Texas Christian University held its first philanthropy event to support Dads Against Deadly Drugs (DADDs). DADDs is an organization that is being started by the father of a Texas Zeta member Ty Pickens who passed away this past semester. The overall goal of the organization is to not only bring awareness to drugs and the effects they have on your body and loved ones, but to also start a campaign to help pass stronger laws to punish those who provide drug accessories.
The philanthropy event consisted of a fundraiser at a local restaurant and a soccer tournament amongst the TCU Greek community and other organizations that wanted to form a team. Overall, the tournament was a great success, and everyone who competed seemed to have a lot of fun. After talking to the Pickens family, who had made their way to campus to watch the tournament, they were amazed and humbled at the commitment and outpouring of support from the chapter and the TCU community. The event raised approximately $1,500. The chapter looks forward to doing the event again next year, and they are already working on plans to improve and make it better.
