In 2014, after a 15-year hiatus, the Phis of Alabama Beta at Auburn University reinstated a tradition that originated in the 1970’s and hosted their first Chili Cook-Off fundraiser for The ALS Association in the new millennium. Now, a decade later, over a dozen contestants broke out their secret family recipes and battled it out to bring home bragging rights for the best chili in the biggest Cook-Off to date. Spearheaded by the chapter’s Philanthropy Chairman Matt White, and organized through a coalition of brothers, alumni and parents, Alabama Beta shattered their previous record for donations for The ALS Association and secured a record 13 corporate sponsors.
As part of the annual spring Parents’ Weekend, the Chili Cook-Off has been an event that alumni and undergraduate brothers have looked forward to for years. It was a packed house as Auburn’s award-winning mascot Aubie joined the Phis to show the University’s support of the longest continuously running fraternity on Auburn’s campus (1879). More than 200 hundred brothers and alumni were present.
