Trevor Richardson – Valparaiso

Student Body President

Road to Greatness

Valparaiso University Phi Trevor Richardson (pictured left) was recently elected as the 2014-2015 Student Body President. This is the second year in a row that a member of Phi Delta Theta will serve in the role as Richardson succeeds current Student Body President Alexander Uryga (pictured right). Richardson has been involved with the Valparaiso University Student Senate since the start of his college career in the Fall of 2011. Richardson began his time in student government as a freshman senator and then moved up to the position of sophomore senator the following year. As a sophomore senator, Richardson chaired the Administration Committee that dealt with the recognition of new student organizations and the re-recognition of current student organizations.

This past year, Richardson served as the Student Body Vice President where he chaired the meetings of the Student Senate, handled internal operations of the Senate and assisted the Student Body President. Moving into the role of Student Body President, Richardson plans to take a two-pronged approach to revamping the Student Senate. He first plans to increase outreach by the Student Senators to the student body itself through a strengthening of the student organization outreach program, open-forum meetings and the establishment of a student concerns discussion forum. The second prong to Richardson’s approach involves increasing the visibility of Student Senate on Valparaiso University’s campus through increased community service/philanthropy, partnership with student organization events and the creation of a Student Senate university radio and television segment where senators can discuss issues on campus. In addition, Richardson plans to work with the school newspaper to establish a section to feature the Senate’s work.
