Pursuit of Greatness
Guy Pacurar – USC

Born and raised in Del Mar, California, Guy Pacurar successfully managed a small company in San Diego for twenty years before his daughter, Taylor, inspired him to fulfill a lifelong dream and purchase an inn. The ensuing twelve-month search took him to twenty-nine inns in five states before he visited California’s North Coast and found the Brewery Gulch Inn. In August of 2007, he became the second owner of this iconic Mendocino property.

The results of the 19th annual Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards were recently released, and California Delta’s Guy Pacurar and his Brewery Gulch Inn, a contemporary Arts & Crafts redwood lodge located on the Northern Mendocino Coast, has placed third in the continental U.S. Inn and Small Lodge category, and 20th among all hotels worldwide.

Every year, passionate Travel + Leisure readers vote on their favorite cities, lodging properties, spas, airlines, cruise lines, tour operators, rental-car agencies, and more in the annual World’s Best Awards survey. This year, thousands of votes were cast in all categories by readers from around the world.

“My wife Sarah and I are fortunate to have had this incredible canvas of redwoods, ocean vistas and the magical light of coastal Mendocino on which to create this peaceful redwood retreat,” stated Brewery Gulch Inn owner, Guy Pacurar. “We are deeply appreciative of our past guests and the readers of Travel + Leisure Magazine who took the time to vote for us in this survey, and we are in absolute awe of the company we are surrounded by.”

Perched high on a bluff top overlooking Smuggler’s Cove and the Pacific Ocean, the Brewery Gulch Inn is a one-of-a-kind bed-and-breakfast property that reigns cathedral-like over the dramatic Northern Mendocino coast. Constructed in 2001 from 150-year old redwood reclaimed from the nearby Big River, this architectural masterpiece boasts a 15-foot cathedral ceiling in the Great Room, complete with a stunning, four-sided glass-and-steel fireplace, 10 romantic rooms with all the modern amenities, three extraordinary acres of mature pines and redwoods, wooded glens, wetland ponds, gardens, and a full-time executive chef who will tempt your taste buds with an extensive array of culinary offerings, from a complimentary cooked-to-order breakfasts, to an innovative dinner buffet highlighting locally-sourced, organic ingredients.
