The Valley of the Sun Alumni Club created the Phoenix Award in 2002 to recognize a chapter that has shown dramatic improvement over the course of previous academic year. The winner is selected based on their improvement in 14 critical areas of chapter operations as well as additional information provided by the Province President, General Headquarters staff and university officials. This year both an Honorable Mention as well as an overall winner were selected.
Winner – Washington Alpha – University of Washington
The Washington Alpha Chapter at the University of Washington saw an improvement in virtually every area of operation this year. The chapter increased its membership by 68% and had the second highest GPA of IFC chapters with a 3.4. The chapter is full of leaders on campus with representation on IFC and student government. In 2014, the chapter received a $250,000 gift from the wife of Brother Robert J. Behnke, rededicated their chapter house in his name and established a Whole Man Scholarship in his name.
Honorable Mention – Kentucky Iota – University of Louisville
During the 2013-14 academic year, the brothers of Kentucky Iota at the University of Louisville increased the chapter’s membership by 64%! The chapter’s two Phikeia classes this year were two of the largest classes in its history. Kentucky Iota placed second in Greek Week and received accolades from the Office of Greek Life.
