Fresh off the heels of their ice bucket challenge, Illinois Eta at the University of Illinois hosted Phi-athlon to benefit The ALS Association on October 4. Many teams participated from numerous sororities, including winners Kappa Delta and Kappa Kappa Gamma. Philanthropy Chairmen Dom Canizzaro and Johnny Mark were the masterminds behind the event, and they worked to organize the chapter into small teams to raise awareness for the event and coach various teams. “We wanted to build off of the growing support for ALS internationally,” said Chapter President Dan Santos.
The philanthropy event consisted of numerous mini-events, including tug-of-war and three-legged races. Phi Delt coaches watched intensely from the sidelines and sometimes even participated as their teams competed for the grand prize of a dinner at Firehaus, a local restaurant on campus. Each event earned the sorority points for top finishes. The event raised thousands of dollars for The ALS Association, and it will surely be a mainstay for Illinois Eta and continue to grow in the years to come.
