This past week, 43 fraternity and sorority members and two advisers from the University of Akron Greek community volunteered at Camp Twin Lakes in Winder, Georgia. The Ohio Epsilon Chapter of Phi Delta Theta sent 14 of the 45 volunteers. This is the third year that the Akron Greek community has participated in this service project over spring break.
The attendees contributed 1,080 service hours during their break as they completed various projects to prepare the camp for its summer season. These tasks included mulching, laying sod, preparing cabins, cleaning tables and chairs, pressure-washing sidewalks and boats and building totem pole pieces for the children to decorate.
Camp Twin Lakes offers children with disabilities and severe illness a chance to have a normal camp experience by utilizing special adaptive equipment. The efforts of these outstanding Greek members saved the camp $24,030; money that will now allow 30 children to attend the camp without expense.
