The NYC Alumni Club hosted its Winter Networking Event for the Gamma East Province on Thursday, March 2 at the Penn Club. To kickoff the event, a career development panel discussion was held on the topic of “How to Leverage Your Greek Experience and Network.” The three alumni panel speakers had a number of great tips including: the importance of reaching out to potential alumni mentors, how to “hack” the interview process, and reflecting on how to verbalize the leadership development that a Greek experience provides.Undergraduate brothers were then given a lesson on how to deliver a “60-second elevator pitch” when introducing themselves to alumni who could help them connect with a career opportunity.
Following the panel discussion, 55 attendees from 23 different chapters began the networking portion of the evening. Gamma East Province President Fred Reimer addressed the crowd first by thanking outgoing Province President Chris Simeone for his contributions to the growth of the province. Fred then provided an update about the recent successes of Phi Delta Theta. Chapter Advisory Board Chairmen from the province updated the group on recent chapter activity and how the alumni in attendance could support their chapters.
The brothers from New York Kappa at Hofstra University took home the coveted Burt Reynolds-signed Florida State football helmet for having the highest attendance at the event. It was a great evening with a number of alumni offering to join chapter advisory boards, provide job shadowing experiences to our undergraduate brothers and get involved with the NYC Alumni Club.
