Phi Delta Theta Introduces The 2017 Peer Mentor Class

Phi Delta Theta is proud to announce its 2017 Peer Mentor class for the Kleberg Emerging Leaders Institute. The program focuses on enhancing leadership skills, group facilitation, and provides specialized education to become more familiar with Phi Delta Theta as a living organization.

The undergraduate peer mentors are paired with a faculty member and become a part of their respective Kleberg Emerging Leaders Institute chapter. They sit with the chapter in the General Sessions and assist the lead faculty member in the facilitation of the chapter meeting curriculum.

Peer mentors also participate in specialized educational sessions during the course of the Institute. Discussions and presentations include topics vital to Phi Delta Theta and the entire interfraternal world.


The 2017 Peer Mentor Class

Ninad Ahmed Kettering (Michigan Delta)

Ninad is a junior from Kettering University studying Mechanical Engineering. He recently completed rotation internships at ContiTech NA and Nissan Technical Center. Ninad has served Michigan Delta as Phikeia educator, philanthropy chairman, and scholarship chairman. Raised in the “Motor City,” he has one year of violin under his belt and grows the spiciest peppers in the world.

Giovanni Annatelli – Hofstra (New York Kappa)

Giovanni is a senior majoring in Journalism with a concentration in Sports at Hofstra. He is the Social Media Manager at his school’s radio station, WRHU, and plays for the club lacrosse team. Annatelli is the chapter president of New York Kappa and enjoys tacos, Mountain Dew baja blast, and hanging out with his chapter brothers.

Ryan Battelle – Missouri State (Missouri Epsilon)

Ryan is a rising junior at Missouri State University majoring in Psychology with a minor in Diversity Studies and Marketing. He is the chapter president of Missouri Epsilon and enjoys giving back to the community by volunteering at the local Springfield, Missouri Boys & Girls Club.

Joshua Bolona– Central Florida (Florida Iota)

Joshua is a senior at the University of Central Florida studying Industrial Engineering. He is very involved on campus as the outgoing Greek Council President, Senator in SGA, and Student Body Advocacy Committee Chairman. In his spare time, he enjoys watching Champions League Soccer and serves as captain of the Florida Iota Intramural Soccer Team.

Juan Camacho – Akron (Ohio Epsilon)

Juan is a junior at the University of Akron where he majors in Biomedical Engineering. He is involved in the Biomedical Engineering Design Team, SGA, and is the chapter’s Warden. During his free time, he enjoys coaching high school baseball.

Traer Freeman – San Francisco (California Chi)

Traer is a junior at the University of San Francisco pursuing a Bachelors of Arts in Economics. He serves his chapter as recruitment chairman and provides campus tours as a University Ambassador for the University of San Francisco Admissions Office. Freeman is an avid soccer fan and was very involved with his high school theater department.

Matthew Guilmette – Central Connecticut State (Connecticut Alpha)

Matthew is a senior at Central Connecticut State University majoring in Criminology. He is the chapter president of Connecticut Alpha and enjoys working out, playing sports, and spending quality time with brothers. An avid skier in the winter and rugby player in the summer, Guilmette aspires to one day serve as a police officer in Connecticut.

Yachi Gutierrez Minnesota State-Mankato (Minnesota Beta)

Yachi is senior at Minnesota State University- Mankato studying Biomedical Sciences. He currently serves the Minnesota Beta Chapter as president. Yachi’s goal is to become a physician specializing in sports medicine and orthopedics.

Devin Hamlin Kettering (Michigan Delta)

Devin is a senior Computer Science major at Kettering University with minors in History and International Studies. During his time at Michigan Delta, he has served as treasurer, vice president, and president. Devin’s favorite aspect of chapter life is the shared principle of “One Man is No Man.”

Ryan Hartnett – Loyola Marymount (California Psi)

Ryan is a junior Recording Arts major at Loyola Marymount University. Originally from Southern California, Ryan is the recruitment chairman at California Psi where he led his chapter’s most successful recruitment effort to date, nearly doubling the chapter’s size.

Nicholas Hartney Georgia Southern (Georgia Epsilon)

Nicholas is a senior IT major at Georgia Southern University where he currently serves as president of Georgia Epsilon. He is heavily involved on campus through the Admissions Office. Hartney is inspired to lead others and help them find their passion and purpose in life.

Austin Hayes – Colorado State (Colorado Gamma)

Austin is a senior Accounting & Finance major at Colorado State University where he is chapter president of Colorado Gamma. A few of his previous accomplishments include serving on the IFC throughout his sophomore and junior years, most recently as outgoing president of the IFC. Hayes looks forward to the opportunity to have a positive impact on his chapter this coming fall.

Ryan Hoffman La Verne (California Rho)

Ryan is a junior at La Verne majoring in History. He is a member of the University’s Student Government as Pro Tempore, Orientation Week leader, and is a varsity athlete on the Men’s Cross Country and Track & Field teams.

Jason Hutchison Florida Gulf Coast (Florida Xi )

Jason is a senior Accounting major at Florida Gulf Coast University. He is a proud founding father of his chapter and has served as vice president and chaplain. In his free time, Hutch enjoys fishing, playing sports, and going to the dog tracks with his chapter brothers.

Zack Koeller – Southeast Missouri State (Missouri Zeta)

Zack is a junior studying Health Communication at Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO). He is the chapter president of Missouri Zeta and has served as Phikeia educator, public relations chairman, and EVP of the IFC. He is a member of Order of Omega and the Homecoming Planning Committee at SEMO.

Isaac Lampner Akron (Ohio Epsilon)

Issac is a senior studying Political Science at the University of Akron. He currently serves Ohio Epsilon as vice president and is also involved in Student Government. In his spare time, he likes to go to concerts, watch soccer, play video games, and is a huge fan of punch rock and indie music.

Sam Layden Hanover (Indiana Epsilon)

Sam is a junior Communication major at Hanover College where is he also a member of the Business Scholars Program. He is the chapter president of Indiana Epsilon and plays running back for the Panther football team. Layden is also very involved in the Hanover College athletic department, serving as the athletic event staff coordinator.

Steven Lorenz – Purdue (Indiana Theta)

Steven is a junior Mechanical Engineering major at Purdue University. He is the chapter president of Indiana Theta and is very involved with the Purdue Club Baseball team. His academic passions include research on materials, specifically stress analysis. Lorenz is excited to pursue a graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering to combine two areas of interest; research and teaching.

Logan Macomber – Eastern Washington (Washington Epsilon)

Logan is a senior studying Criminal Justice at Eastern Washington University. He most recently served Washington Epsilon as recruitment chairman. Macomber is involved in intramural sports and is league director for Eastern Washington University’s Recreational and Intramurals Department.

Matthew Martinez – Sam Houston State (Texas Pi)

Matt is senior pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology at Sam Houston State University. He has held several offices at Texas Pi including vice president, warden, and Phikeia educator. Following graduation, Matt aspires to teach utilizing his secondary education minor.

Daniel Newman Eastern Washington (Washington Epsilon)

Daniel is a senior and is double-majoring in Political Science and Criminal Justice at Eastern Washington University. He currently serves Washington Epsilon as vice president and awards chairman. Upon graduation, he aspires to attend law school.

Andrew Norrie – Western Ontario (Ontario Beta)

Andrew is a senior at Western Ontario University working towards his double-major in Political Science and American History. He currently serves Ontario Beta as both chapter president and public relations chair. Norrie believes membership in Phi Delta Theta has given him more valuable skills, experiences, and knowledge than his academic pursuits.

James Pietras – Robert Morris (Pennsylvania Pi)

James is a junior majoring in Actuarial Science and minoring in Finance, Accounting, and Economics at Robert Morris University. He is vice president and philanthropy chairman for Pennsylvania Pi and serves on the SGA as a representative for his chapter. Jimmy also serves as Captain of the Robert Morris club lacrosse team.

Zachary Scott Chico State (California Xi)

Zach is a junior at California State University, Chico studying Cellular Molecular Biology with a minor in Chemistry. He is the chapter president of California Xi and is the Commissioner of Community Affairs for the Associated Students at Chico State. He aspires to become a pediatric doctor.

Brandon Shaw Kent State (Ohio Lambda)

Brandon is a senior Exercise major at Kent State University. He is the vice president at Ohio Lambda, member of Order of Omega, and most recently, winner of “Man of the Year” from Kent State. A lifelong Cleveland sports fan, he is no stranger to heartbreak.

Mason Simpson Campbell (North Carolina Zeta)

Mason is a senior dual degree MBA/BBA student at Campbell University, where he is majoring in Healthcare Management. He is a founding father of North Carolina Zeta and serves as the chapter president. Simpson is the Student Activities Graduate Assistant for Student Government and Clubs. Upon graduation, Mason plans to work in higher education.

Matthew Stocker Lindenwood (Missouri Iota)

Matthew is a junior majoring in Public Relations at Lindenwood University. He is a founding father of Missouri Iota and was their scholarship chairman throughout the transition from colony to chapter. Stocker serves as vice president and enjoys volunteering with his local youth group, playing guitar, and spending quality time with his family and friends.

William Thompson Montana (Montana Alpha)

William is a senior studying Health and Human Performance, Human Biology with a minor in Media Arts at the University of Montana. He is the chapter president of Montana Alpha. As a former recruitment chairman, Thompson successfully recruited a group of young men that resulted in an increase in the chapter size by over 50%.

Asher Thompson-Cohen St. John’s (New York Lambda)

Asher is a senior majoring in Management at St. Johns University in Queens, New York. He is the chapter president of New York Lambda and successfully oversaw the transformation of New York Lambda from colony to chapter. He continues to strive for greatness and is excited about serving as a 2017 Peer Mentor.

Mitchell Willing Kettering (Michigan Delta)

Mitchell is a junior at Kettering University working towards a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He serves Michigan Delta as vice president. In addition to school, Willing participates in a co-op at Dura Automotive Systems in Auburn Hills, Michigan doing product design and testing for major automotive companies.
