Gerry Dick – Indiana State

Gerry Dick, Indiana State ’80, grew up in Clinton, Indiana. He graduated from Indiana State with a bachelor of science in Radio-TV-Film and a minor in marketing. After graduation, he worked as a journalist at television stations in both Fort Wayne and Terre Haute before moving on to WRTV in Indianapolis. As a field anchor and reporter for WRTV, he was nominated for an Emmy award in 1993 for his investigation into Indiana companies who were doing business along the US-Mexico border.

In 1998, he created his series, Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick, in which he is also the host. It was around this time that he also served as senior vice president of the Indianapolis Economic Development Corporation, where he was responsible for a broad range of initiatives, including marketing, communications, advertising and media relations.

In 2000, he took his popular series to a new level by creating Grow INdiana Media Ventures, LLC, along with Scott A. Jones, a technology entrepreneur. The purpose of the company is to broadcast Indiana business news utilizing various media sources. Gerry is the president and managing editor with Scott acting as chairman. In addition to his Emmy award-winning series Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick, a series that is considered to be “Indiana’s most-watched local business television program” by both Indiana State and WFYI, Grow INdiana Media includes InsideINdianaBusiness.com, Inside INdiana Business Radio, The INside Edge Morning Briefing and Midday e-newsletters, and a variety of interactive and mobile media products. Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick has received an Emmy for best interview/discussion program/series or special.

Gerry is a frequent keynote speaker and moderator on issues related to the Indiana economy, provides provider of news segments regarding local business to WTHR Channel 13 Eyewitness News, with reports shown on programs such as Eyewitness News at 5 p.m. and Eyewitness News Sunrise, and serves as a business analyst for television station WISH-TV and radio station WIBC. He has twice been presented with the Sagamore of the Wabash (in 2004 and 2012), an honorary award bestowed on those who have contributed greatly to “Hoosier” heritage. He has also received Ernst and Young’s prestigious Entrepreneur of the Year award and has been recognized by the Small Business Administration as its Journalist of the Year.

Gerry shows his Indiana State pride by serving on the Dean’s Executive Council at the Scott College of Business at Indiana State University and is also a founding member of the Dean’s Advisory Council at the Indiana University School of Informatics. ISU has recognized his professional accomplishments with its Distinguished Alumni Award.

Additionally, he is a past member of the board of directors of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce and serves on the Board of Advisors at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. He also serves as chairman of the Scholarship Selection Committee for Vectren Corporation and is an honorary member of the Rotary Club of Indianapolis.

Gerry is married to Roz and they have three children. The family currently resides in Indianapolis. When he isn’t working, Gerry likes to relax by hanging out with his wife and friends, playing and watching sports, and riding his bike.
