[Palmer's History Book Published] #PhiDeltaTheta17 [Palmer's History Book Published] #PhiDeltaTheta175

A massive and masterful work of nearly a thousand pages and half a million words, it was the result of many years of arduous labor. For all its accuracy and its minute and endless detail, the book was imbued with fraternal warmth and aspiration. In a foreword to the book venerable John Wolfe Lindley wrote: “It will cement a much closer union of our members . . . It will be a great incentive for making our brotherhood stronger.” https://phide.lt/3nqMhH7

[First Chapter House] #PhiDeltaTheta175 In fall o [First Chapter House] #PhiDeltaTheta175

In fall of 1874, the California Alpha Chapter (@calphidelt) rented a university-owned cottage for the chapter’s usage. It was a one-story house with six rooms and was the first Phi Delt chapter house ever and the first west of the Mississippi amongst all fraternities and sororities.

The Grand Alpha chapter had issued a charter for California Alpha only a year prior, on June 16, 1873, after a Wisconsin Alpha alumnus had initiated three University of California students. The beginning of the 1873 fall term was when the chapter’s existence was publicly announced, already totaling twenty members.

The chapter grew in size and popularity on campus after obtaining the chapter house.

In 1914, California Alpha built and moved into its second chapter house. While the chapter is in a different location today the 1914 property is registered on the National Register of Historic Places.

Registration for the 2023 Kleberg Emerging Leaders Registration for the 2023 Kleberg Emerging Leaders Institute is OPEN! #Kleberg23

On July 29–August 1, 2023, Phi Delta Theta is thrilled to invite over 1000 Phis from across the United States and Canada to the Fraternity’s birthplace, Oxford, Ohio, during its 175th-celebratory year.

Kleberg, named for benefactors Tio and Janell Kleberg, is a cornerstone of Phi Delta Theta’s membership development program, The Pursuit of Greatness. Designed for young members of the Fraternity who aspire to one day lead their chapter, Kleberg is an amazing opportunity for members to learn more about Phi Delta Theta beyond the borders of their campus, develop relations with brothers from across the organization, and build the skills necessary to become a better leader and Phi.

Over three days, attendees have the opportunity to listen to world-class speakers, attend educational sessions about important topics, and participate in small group discussions with other undergraduate brothers led by Phi Delt volunteers. As an extension of Kleberg, and in partnership with Sonoma State University, we are offering an experiential course that allows you the opportunity to not only apply what you’ve learned to improve your chapter, but to earn four units of transferable credit for your Fraternity experience!

Registration is located in myPhiDelt (Event Registration in the top navigation bar). Please register your chapter's delegates by May 1. To learn more about Kleberg visit: https://phide.lt/KLE

The brothers of the Michigan Beta chapter of Phi Delta Theta would like to show our appreciation for all of the support we have received in the past month. The messages and gifts we have received from our fellow Spartans, friends, and from our brothers across the nation has been nothing short of incredible; and every kind word, letter, and flower has meant everything to us as a brotherhood. The Brian Fraser memorial scholarship has received over $100,000 in donations, which will help not only fund future Michigan beta presidents educations, but it will ensure that Brian’s legacy will never be forgotten. The library inside of our chapter house has also been renamed in honor of Brian. Thank you again for all of the support, everyone!

The third and fourth scholarships were awarded at the officers conference in August to Fred Favor of Arkansas Alpha at the University of Arkansas, and William McCarty of Pennsylvania Epsilon Dickinson College.

Today the Phi Delta Theta Foundation annually awards more than 400 scholarships and fellowships totaling nearly $600,000. Applications for the 2023-24 school year are now open. Students are encouraged to apply on myPhiDelt.

Wishing Delta Gamma (@deltagamma_eo) a Happy Founders Day! Did you know we both celebrate on March 15th?

Not only do we share a Founders Day, but one of our brothers, George Banta, is the only male initiate of Delta Gamma. Banta helped pave the way to bring their women's fraternity up north to Franklin College, the women of Delta Gamma surprised Banta with the initiation of what would become the Phi chapter- in honor of Phi Delta Theta. https://phide.lt/3ZVMmjH

[Founders Room Ready for Use in Elliott Hall] #Phi [Founders Room Ready for Use in Elliott Hall] #PhiDeltaTheta175

In 1936, Miami University rebuilt the century-old North Hall under a federal grant with matching funds from the university. The original brick walls remained, but the interior was hollowed. Down came the old chimneys and fireplaces, and the battered old halls and stairways went out. The new building, still redolent of the past, was ready for use in 1937. Renamed Elliott Hall, it combined tradition with comfort.

By an act of the university trustees, the Founders’ Room, a front room on the second floor, was restored to its original dimensions and assigned to Phi Delta Theta. The Fraternity furnished it in appropriate character, with portraits of the founders on the walls.

Tomorrow, on Founders Day, we remember the importance of that room, and the legacy we carry almost 175 years later. Learn more: http://bit.ly/3JjKACB

Why do we celebrate Founders Day on March 15? #Phi Why do we celebrate Founders Day on March 15? #PhiDeltaTheta175

In 1910, March 15 became Founders Day because the fateful first meeting of the Immortal Six in Elliott Hall, December 26, was too close to the holidays for a convenient annual celebration. Robert Morrison is the original Bond No. 1. Therefore, his birthday is the annual day of celebration.
