The new generation of Phis are fortunate to have a wealth of role models in the technology space. With Phis having made companies like Dropbox and LinkedIn household names, it’s within reason that Phi Delta Theta has future technology greats waiting in the wings.
Such could be the case for South Carolina Gamma President Kyle Beard. The Mechanical Engineering major from Woodstock, Georgia is the mastermind behind Power Stats, a sports record book that allows users to create profiles, add sporting event data, calculate statistics, compare averages and more.
Drawing inspiration from his own experiences growing up, he recognized that many parents and athletes don’t have the time, means, and/or knowledge of understanding and calculating their little league, intramural, recreational, middle school, or sometimes high school sports statistics. “I wanted to create a product to help individual athletes, parents, friends, and coaches excel in ways where they could easily record their sporting event statistics and see results on how they are performing analytically,” he said.
Following extensive beta testing among chapter brothers and other Epsilon Province Phi Delt chapters, Power Stats, the Apple-based app is ready for market and currently available in the App Store for iPhone users.
While he has his sights on growing Power Stats into a multi-platform, social media service exclusively for all things sports, he is committed to using a portion of the proceeds to give back to the local community. “My mama always taught me that 10% of the proceeds I make should be donated to a local charity or organization. Right now, I will be making contributions to my hometown church.”
