Indiana Gamma’s (Butler) Frederic B. “Ted” Lowrie, Jr. Recognized With Legion Of Merit at Convention

The Legion of Merit Award honors those outstanding members of our Fraternity who have made a lifelong commitment to the service of Phi Delta Theta. The recipients of this award are not only living testimony that Phi Delta Theta is a “Fraternity for Life,” but they are also the men who give this phrase meaning for so many of us.

Brother Frederic B. “Ted” Lowrie, Jr. was initiated into the Indiana Gamma Chapter at Butler University on March 17, 1968 and led his chapter as president during his senior year.

Brother Lowrie spent his entire career in the financial services industry. As Senior Vice President of Fidelity Investments, he had a variety of assignments in Retail Marketing, Advertising, Operations and National Customer Service. Ted was Executive Vice President of high-end retail brokerage customers and President of the in-house advertising agency. He was active in several industry organizations during his career including the Investment Company Institute, National Investment Company Services Association and the Mutual Fund Education Alliance.

After retiring, Brother Lowrie shifted his focus to the non-profit sector. He served on the Executive Board of Family Services of Merrimack Valley and the board of the Merrimack Valley Habitat for Humanity where he was Board President. Ted was also a long-time trustee of The Pike School in Andover, Massachusetts, was on the Board of Governors of the Cranbrook Schools in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and the Board of Visitors of the College of Business at Butler University. He is currently President of the Board of Trustees of the Sturgis Library on Cape Cod.

Brother Lowrie has served in the volunteer ranks of Phi Delta Theta for 25 years. He was  a Province President for thirteen years, a Survey Commissioner for six years and a member of the Joint Investment Committee. Ted became a Phi Delta Theta Foundation Trustee in 2008 and continues to serve and support the Foundation. He has also given back generously to his chapter through the Foundation by funding a Whole Man Scholarship for members of Indiana Gamma. Each recipient is invited to the Kleberg Emerging Leaders Institute to participate in the Honors College of Phi Delta Theta’s Leadership and Ethics Academy and is given a scholarship.

Brother Lowrie is a third generation Phi following his grandfather from Michigan Alpha (Michigan) and his father from New York Alpha (Cornell). He and his wife Kathleen McShane have five adult children and five grandchildren.

For his lifelong dedication and commitment to Phi Delta Theta, the Fraternity is proud to honor Brother Frederic B. “Ted” Lowrie, Jr. with the Legion of Merit.
