On March 18, 2017, twenty five men at Carleton University took the first steps in their journey to become a chapter of Phi Delta Theta. Since then, the Ontario Epsilon Colony has worked diligently and has ultimately flourished into one of the largest and widely-respected Greek organizations at Carleton University. The colony members’ hard work and dedication earned them their charter at their installation weekend that occurred on March 23-25, 2018.
The weekend began with a colony meeting with Phi Delta Theta Director of Canadian Services Liam McNally. The colony discussed expectations and plans for the weekend, and members were given the opportunity to voice any questions or concerns relating to their initiation and installation as a chapter.
The following day on March 23, colony members gathered at the Westboro Masonic Hall in Ottawa for their initiation ceremony. Led by General Council President Jeff Davis, the ceremony was performed by Liam McNally, Alex Atkinson (Director of Expansion), Tyler Wilson (Colony Development Specialist), Phil Cantrill (Alpha North Province President), and local alumni volunteers from Nova Scotia Alpha (Dalhousie), Ontario Alpha (Toronto) and Ontario Epsilon (Carleton). Thirty Eight men were initiated as brothers, and the evening concluded with a meal at a local restaurant in downtown Ottawa.
On March 24, colony members, alumni, GHQ representatives, friends, and family gathered at the Westboro Masonic Hall for the Ontario Epsilon Installation Banquet. Presided over by Jeff Davis, guests included alumni from four Canadian chapters as well as leaders from other Carleton University Greek organizations. Programming included the presentation of the charter as well as speeches and photos to celebrate the new chapter’s hard work.
The following day on March 25, the brothers of Ontario Epsilon gathered for a retreat and ritual review with Liam McNally. Ontario Epsilon has challenged itself to reach a size of 50 members next year, wants to become an Iron Phi Chapter, and win the Housser Trophy for top chapter in Canada.
Phi Delta Theta is very excited to welcome Ontario Epsilon back as a chapter and to congratulate its newest brothers!
