Allen Carey – LSU

Louisiana Beta Phi Allen Carey went from t-shirt chairman of his chapter to custom t-shirt business wwner soon after graduation.

“I really enjoyed designing the shirts for my chapter and realized there was a need for a certain type of apparel not offered by any other company,” Carey explains, “In 2011 there wasn’t a single company offering custom neon apparel so I decided to launch a website and that’s when The Neon South was born.”

Allen’s company grew quickly, and he soon made the difficult decision to quit his job and focus on his start-up business. The gamble paid off. With sales over $2 million in the last two years, he’s expanded into all types of apparel for fraternities and sororities across North America and continues to stay in the forefront of Greek fashion.

“The best advice I can give to someone looking to start their own business is don’t be afraid to try, because it may be easier than you think,” Carey said. “It takes a lot of hard work but the most important thing is having the initiative to try.”
