Phi Delta Theta Fraternity alumnus James R. Borders (Georgia Tech ’83) was among the six Georgia Institute of Technology fraternity and sorority alumni/ae that were recently inducted into the University’s 2015 Greek Hall of Fame.
“The lifelong relationships with my fraternity brothers have been enjoyable and important to me,” Borders said. “The lessons I learned about organizations and teamwork while an undergrad have served me well.”
Borders graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering before going on to receive his MBA from University of Georgia – Terry School of Business and a law degree from University of Georgia School of Law. As an undergraduate, Borders served as chapter vice president and was a member of the Georgia Tech Lacrosse Club.
Today, Borders is founding president and CEO of the Atlanta-based Novare Group, a successful property development firm. His work on projects in Midtown Atlanta have been credited for the economic resurgence in this area of the city and for creating the vibrant lifestyle to Midtown.
“Over the years Brother Borders has remained an advocate and supporter of the Georgia Delta chapter,” said Danny Goldman, the current Georgia Delta President. “We are honored by his accomplishments and are proud to call him a Phi.”
During the years since graduation, Borders has remained active at both the chapter and university level having served as an officer on his chapter’s alumni association board and as a member of the Alumni Association board of trustees, the Georgia Tech Foundation, the Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering and the Alexander-Tharpe Fund.
The Phi Delta Theta Alumni Club of Atlanta recently inducted him into Silver Legion in recognition of 25 years of membership.
The Georgia Tech Greek Hall of Fame was established in 2014 to commemorate the institution’s 125th anniversary of Greek Life and honor those who on exemplify the ideals of their fraternity or sorority Creed as well as notable accomplishments in one or more of the following: Greek life, Georgia Tech, their community and/or their profession. Atlanta attorney and fellow Phi Delta Theta alum Ben Mathis, Jr. (Georgia Tech ’81) was inducted in 2014.
