Chris Gomez is an honors student at the University of Nevada, Reno completing two Bachelor’s degrees in May. He is currently finishing a Bachelor of Science in Biology and minor in Biochemistry and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, as well as defending his thesis about Asian influences in Argentine popular culture. He chose to study spanish because since his last name is Gomez people would assume he knew Spanish, now he can respond back to them fluently and communicate with other people when he studies abroad. He plans to earn a master’s degree in Public Health and go to dental school.
Chris has been involved in many campus groups including the ASUN Department of Clubs and Organizations where he interacted with over 250 clubs and organizations and oversaw the disbursement of nearly $600,000 in club support funding. He has volunteered many hours helping out Student Ambassadors with prospective students and has recently worked with the new BioFit camp as a peer mentor. Chris also found time to join a fraternity on campus, Phi Delta Theta, and organized the fraternity’s signature philanthropy event, the Price is Right. Being an extrovert, Gomez can never sit still so luckily he had all of these amazing activities to keep him occupied.
“Being part of a club or organization adds to the college experience. There is only so much that you can learn in a classroom without applying concepts to a real life situation,” Chris Gomez said.
When he is not busy volunteering or studying he likes to sleep, watch his favorite television show House of Cards on Netflix, and play tennis. He’s grown to love hiking to the “N” and skiing in Tahoe. As graduation gets closer he reminisces on his time here at the university. He will miss going to the football games and chanting the fight song in the student section.
After graduation, Chris plans on applying to various dental schools around the country. His dream job is to be the Secretary of Health and Human Services or to be the U.S. Ambassador to a Spanish-speaking country.
