Cooper Castleberry is from Lufkin, Texas and attended Lufkin High School and Stephen F. Austin State University. After college, he worked in his family’s furniture & interior decorating business from which he retired in 2012. As a community leader in Lufkin, Cooper has served on many committees and boards of directors including eight years on the City of Lufkin Planning & Zoning Commission and twelve years on the Lufkin ISD Board of Trustees (2 of those years as its president).
Cooper has been a football official since 1978 and a collegiate official since 1994. College experience: 1994-1998 Southland Conference; 1999-2001 Western Athletic Conference; 2002-Present Big 12 Conference. His post-season assignments include three FCS quarter final games, the Insight.com Bowl, Papa John’s Pizza Bowl, the GMAC Bowl, the Independence Bowl, the Motor City Bowl (twice), the Capitol One Bowl (twice), the Gator Bowl, the Big 12 Championship, the 2008 FCS National Championship and the 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship. Cooper remains active in his local TASO-Football chapter (SFA Chapter) and is a past president of TASO-Football.
Cooper married Julie (Noland) in 1974 and they have three children and three grandchildren. Cooper attends Christ Congregational Church in Lufkin of which he was a founder and charter member.
