During his fourteenth season as the Widener women’s volleyball coach, Donovan Anglin, Widener ’92, was named Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Women’s Volleyball Coach of the Year for the 2022 season, an honor voted on by the other coaches in the conference. Anglin is one of three Widener coaches to earn top conference titles this season.
Sports at Widener was always a passion for Anglin. During his undergrad, he played a few seasons on the men’s volleyball club team, the football team, and the men’s soccer squad. Anglin also qualified for nationals in the 55-meter high hurdles and 55-meter dash on the track. Beyond graduation, he served as an assistant volleyball coach at Widener from 1994-2003 and as the head men’s club coach in 1999 and 2000, while continuing to serve the school as an academic counselor for the Widener’s Project Prepare Program.
“It’s a great honor to be recognized by my colleagues in the conference, but this award would not be possible without the resilience and hard work of my players and staff; it is as much for them as it for me,” Anglin said.
Anglin has helped guide the woman’s volleyball team through its most successful seasons in program history, including putting the team in a position to challenge for a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) title. This year they made it to the semifinal round of the MAC Tournament, finishing the season with a 13-14 overall record and a 5-3 conference record.
Anglin is also Widener’s men’s volleyball head coach and is preparing for the upcoming season starting in January. He currently lives in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, with his wife Megan, daughter Avery, and sons Donovan and Justin.
