Hemanth Tadepalli, Kettering ’23, has been appointed by Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson to serve on the Michigan Department of State’s Collegiate Student Advisory Task Force. Tadepalli was one of twenty-four students selected from over two hundred applicants.
“This is a critical time in our nation’s democracy, and it is vital that student voices are at the table,” Benson said in a news release. “The task force will play an important role empowering and engaging student voters across Michigan to ensure their voices are heard on Election Day and beyond. I look forward to their recommendations and supporting their work to improve voter education, engagement and participation among young people.”
Tadepalli previously served as the student body vice president at Kettering University. In this role, he established Diversity Week on Kettering’s campus, which included partnering with various organizations, involving local chapters of the National Society of Black Engineers and the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers, to highlight the culture, countries, and foods of these diverse student populations. On the last day of Diversity Week, Hemanth invites prominent alumnus/alumna of color to discuss their experiences in their chosen professional field.
Within the Michigan Delta Chapter, Tadepalli used food to introduce brothers to other cultures, and used presentations and other cultural methodologies to expose brothers of Michigan Delta and other fraternities to different ethnic groups and cultures. In addition to his diversity and inclusion work on campus, Brother Tadepalli works at Alix Partners as an information security operations intern, bikes, and plays piano. Hemanth has performed his music at one of the world’s most famous venues, Carnegie Hall.
Hemanth studies computer science, specifically cybersecurity. He is the student social ambassador for Kettering University, a member of the school of management’s Dean Advisory Council, and a fellow of the Kettering LEADERS program, which accepts less than 1 percent of the student body. After graduation, Tadepalli wants to pursue a master’s in cybersecurity or management.
