An Important Message From General Council President Chris Lapple

A new semester has begun and Spring Break is right around the corner. The start of the new year always breeds excitement on campus. Members and chapters of Phi Delta Theta everywhere set out to become the greatest versions of themselves. We’re very proud of our undergraduate members and the values they represent, and the Fraternity is seeing great momentum throughout the Phi Delt Nation. Simply put, our members and chapters are doing amazing things! I’ve never been more proud to be a Phi. As I write this post, I want to remind each and every one of you that you’re always representing Phi Delta Theta on and off campus.

While the Greek community has always been subject to negative stereotypes and stories produced by media outlets, there have recently been a number of articles published about the Greek community that have placed many organizations and our community in a critical light. Phi Delta Theta’s leadership in many areas has been referenced in a few of these articles. This doesn’t mean that our organization is immune from this negative press. We are not perfect. As much as we in the Greek community and at the university level do to educate about the risks associated with the lives of young collegians, there are always those who ignore the warnings and perpetuate any cause for worry. We have all heard the horror stories that have occurred in our community. We need to be vigilant about the choices we make and be aware of how our actions impact the perceptions of fellow Greeks and non-Greeks. Our Fraternity depends on each of you to do your best to uphold our great legacy. Let us continue to lead the Greek community and become the greatest version of ourselves together.

Brothers, enjoy your college experience, and remember that you represent our great Fraternity. Be proud, stand guard and “To do what ought to be done, but would not have been done unless I did it, I thought to be my duty.” We believe in you. Be aware of your own personal responsibilities and your obligation to be your brother’s keeper.

Yours in the Bond,
Chris Lapple, General Council President
