Kyle Funson – Missouri Western

Pursuit of Greatness
Kyle Funson – Missouri Western

The Student Government Association at Missouri Western held elections on March 1 and 2. Missouri Eta Phi Kyle Fuson was elected as the new president of the Student Government Association. Fuson is a sophomore with a major in business management and marketing and a minor in Spanish. He is originally from St. Joseph and graduated from Bishop LeBlond High School.

“Since coming to Missouri Western, I’ve become involved in numerous organizations. I think there are about 14 different organizations I’m currently affiliated with. I am the vice president of the Western Activities Council. As the vice president I am in charge of membership and finances for the organization. I’m also involved in  Phi Delta Theta which is an international social fraternity, Epsilon Tau Pi, an honorary eagle scout fraternity and Alpha Kappa Psi which is a professional business fraternity.” Fuson said.

These are just a few of the many organizations Fuson has been involved in his short time at Missouri Western.

Fuson chose to be involved in SGA because he is originally from St. Joseph and once he arrived at Missouri Western, he realized that there were a lot of opportunities for students; himself included.

“I made it a goal of mine to get involved in SGA, I saw that I could make a large impact on the school community. Since enrolling here, I’ve been trying to just get as involved as I can. I try to get other students involved with all the student involvement potential that we have here on campus. I believe that without student involvement, the university won’t be able to grow. It’s an essential part to keep students on campus and keep them interested in what we have to offer.” Fuson said.

Fuson hopes that next year he can continue to get students engaged on campus and give them the tools they need to be successful and to help their organizations be successful as well. Fuson also hopes to make SGA more transparent.

“We want students to be able to come forward with ideas, and we want to be able to form relationships with different organizations and making sure they feel comfortable coming to us when asking for help.”

Fuson also stated that he hopes to continue where former SGA president (and fellow Missouri Eta Phi) Alec Guy left off in terms of getting students involved here on campus.

Guy said, “I hope that the next administration can continue to get students involved and build upon what SGA has done, because there is always room for improvement.”

Many students and SGA members have faith that president-elect Kyle Fuson will make SGA proud.

SGA senator Engoma Fataki said, “I have no doubt that, Kyle Fuson will be successful as SGA president. The main purpose of SGA is to serve as students voices, and in order to play that role, the SGA has  to hear from the students. President-elect, Kyle Fuson is going implement that as one of his priorities. The previous administration has worked very hard, and they got a lot accomplished, and so President Fuson will pick up right where they left off and keep moving forward. Getting students even more involved is something in which I’m hoping to see him accomplish. As a senator, I am excited and looking forward to working with the new administration.”
