Pursuit of Greatness
Matt McMillan – Tennessee

Brother Matt McMillan is a Tennessee Gamma Phi who graduated from the University of Tennessee in December 2011. He describes his line of work as, “A craft beer entrepreneur.” Despite being in the industry for only a few years, Matt is making amazing strides. He has just become a partner of the new and highly-rated Hexagon Brewing Company in Knoxville, Tennessee.

In addition to making an impact in the brewing industry, Matt truly enjoys impacting his community. “Really, from my end, we create business, jobs, opportunity, and overall, we create positive visibility for our city.” Furthermore, Brother McMillan enjoys organizing charity fundraisers to benefit his community. One of his favorites, The Knoxville Brewfest, raises ~$45,000 each year for CureDuchenne, and the event is now in its 7th year. Duchenne is a progressive, muscle-wasting disease that results from a defective gene responsible for producing the key muscle protein, dystrophin. The event’s generous contributions to CureDuchenne has been a bright spot for research for the past seven years. Additionally, it displays Knoxville’s craft beer industry. “There are 80 breweries, over 300 beers, and about 2,200 people on-site,” said McMillan.
