Matt Poon, an Ontario Alpha Phi, is a distinguished musician, winning countless competitions in Canada. He has won various competitions ranging from first prize in the American String Quartet Composition Competition on top of first prize in the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra Open Call for Works Competition. However, his largest feat came with the 2016 E-Gre National Music Competition in Canada. With this competition win, Matt has received nearly $17,000 in prizes such as cash and a three-week residency and debut recital in Italy at the Casalmaggiore International Music Festival and a 10-15 city Cross-Canada Winner’s Tour in November 2016.

In addition, Matt was featured in the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation music website as one of the “30 Hot Canadian Classical Musicians Under 30, 2016.”

Brother Poon was instrumental in the final drafts for the recent Phi Delta Theta song contest. His expertise and advice given the composer of the winning entry, Isaac Coronel, Westminster ’17, ensured that the song. Thy Likeness Brother, followed current musical composition standards for publishing a piece in an online format.
