Michael Guffy, Northern Arizona ’06, received the Raymond S. Kellis Leadership in Teaching award within the Peoria Unified School District, in Peoria and Glendale, Arizona. Brother Guffy, a fifteen-year veteran teacher was recognized by peers and staff for his dedication to the education profession.
The Kellis Leadership in Teaching award is equivalent to the teacher of the year for a school district of more than forty schools, 1,900 teachers, and 37,000 students, with grades of Kindergarten through High School.
Michael Guffy is a junior high science and history teacher. He coaches boys’ sports at Heritage. He graduated from Northern Arizona where he studied elementary education.
Brother Guffy resides in Glendale, Arizona with a wife and son. He keeps in touch with many of his Phi Delt brothers who also are in the field of education.
He and his family love traveling, visiting San Diego, Seattle, Portland, Dallas, Denver, and Belize. His hobbies are hiking, being outdoors, reading presidential biographies, and drinking coffee.
He is most proud of his former students when he sees them succeed in high school, college, or eventually in a career.
