Peter B. White, Gettysburg ’59, along with his professional career experience and his outgoing personality, have placed him in many leadership roles in his retirement. In 2020, Brother White was admitted to the State of Maryland’s Senior Citizen’s Hall of Fame for his many contributions to his living community and the greater community of Baltimore County, Maryland.
In the five years that Pete has lived at the Pickersgill Retirement Community, he has spearheaded two important committees: Welcoming and Caring. He makes it his mission to interview each new independent living resident so that he may properly introduce the person to other residents. Also, if a resident is hospitalized or is recuperating in a rehabilitation center, that person knows that Pete will soon visit. These two committees keep him quite busy by traveling and spending time to visit.
He also shares with others the Gift of Grief presentation, which he offers periodically at the Gilchrist Hospice Grief Seminars. Comfort and wisdom are his special contributions.
Pete is also interested in having young people become successful in life by giving Lessons for Life to middle school children and by mentoring college interns who serve the Maryland General Assembly on the art of the Lobbyist profession. Pete has been the secretary/treasurer for the Wilson Caucus Lobbyist Group for thirty years.
Peter B. White’s vitality in retirement and contribution to people of every age reflect on his character and great desire to share his knowledge and life experiences.
In 2008, he received from Province President Fred Reimer, Gettysburg ’07, and chapter brother from Pennsylvania Beta Chapter, the Mitch Madden Outstanding Alumni Award in recognition of outstanding contributions to our Brotherhood. He, along with chapter brother Dave Thorpe, Gettysburg ’61, put together a few homecoming reunions. You will see a reflection of his A Phi Forever Moments in the next edition of The Scroll of Phi Delta Theta.
