Phi Delta Theta Installs Texas Tau at the University of Texas at El Paso

On February 21, 2020, the men of the Texas Tau Colony at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) were initiated and signed The Bond of Phi Delta Theta. The Texas Tau Chapter was originally founded in 2006, and since its founding, 222 men have been initiated into the chapter.

The weekend’s initiation and installation ceremonies were conducted by the Fraternity’s Executive Vice President and CEO Robert A. Biggs. The installation ceremony was held at the St. Francis on the Hill Episcopal Church on February 22 with family, campus professionals, chapter advisers, Texas Tau alumni, other UTEP fraternity and sorority members, and friends in attendance to witness the re-installation of the Texas Tau Chapter.

Following the ceremony, at the installation celebration banquet, Province President David Jones shared his continued support for the group and his pride in their ability to make the impact they desire. Davis Jones also presented Brother Biggs with the gift of a lapel pin from Phi Delta Theta’s 1914 General Convention in Birmingham, Alabama. Brother Biggs then shared stories from his 40+ years of service to Phi Delta Theta and how the newly initiated members can translate those lessons to their future successes.

Chapter Advisory Board Chairman Hector Soltero shared, “Since Lou Gehrig was a Phi, baseball is a big part of Phi Delta Theta. With that, I like to see the journey from colonization to installing as a chapter as going from the minor leagues to the majors. This is just the beginning for Texas Tau, as the minor leagues were just a warmup for your first season in the majors. I look forward to seeing many more seasons to come from our brothers at the Texas Tau Chapter.”

Texas Tau’s newly elected chapter president Edgar Lechuga mentioned, “In my time serving in leadership for Phi Delta Theta, I’ve learned you have to continue to try new things to find what works for us. Our purpose is to better our community of El Paso and to see the bigger picture of what we can accomplish here. We are a part of something bigger than ourselves. I didn’t fully know the meaning of that until I witnessed our members mobilizing that purpose and pursuing becoming the best version of themselves.”
