On December 3, 2022, Phi Delta Theta returned to California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, with the induction of the California Nu Emerging Chapter. Originally founded at Cal Poly in 1987 with almost 400 alumni to date, Phi Delta Theta is proud to return to the San Luis Obispo campus with thirty-three bright leaders to build a fraternity devoted to discovering their greatness.
Senior Recruitment Specialist Robbie Nunes, Santa Clara ’21, was tasked with spearheading efforts to return California Nu to Cal Poly’s campus. With the Cal Poly Greek community primed for an expansion effort like Phi Delta Theta, Nunes quickly set to work at the beginning of the fall term with his mission. Throughout the quarter, Robbie worked alongside campus staff and faculty and met with countless student organizations and individuals to find the most upstanding gentlemen to re-establish the California Nu Chapter. Through these efforts, Nunes found men looking to take on this journey, from student-athletes to budding entrepreneurs. Together, he worked alongside these men to hone their leadership skills and soon developed a group of motivated student leaders who were excited and ready to set their course as trailblazers within the Cal Poly Greek community.
Alumni in the San Luis Obispo area discovered the efforts of re-expansion and expressed interest in aiding the men on campus in rebuilding the chapter. With great help from Omicron Northwest Province President Mike Ogg, Sonoma State ’01, this interest became a commitment, and California Nu was equipped with a Chapter Advisory Board. Thanks to the efforts of Chapter Advisory Board Chair Brad Hanson, Cal Poly ’97, to reach out even further, the Cal Poly expansion quickly became a point of re-engagement for even more former California Nu members. Now, the chapter has a support structure in place and the support of individuals, both near and far, who return to the fold and await to give back through events and opportunities with the chapter.
The combination of these motivated student leaders and an excited community behind them culminated in an induction ceremony with over thirty alumni, family, and friends to help commemorate this historic moment. They are eager to restore the California Nu charter.

This group is driven to make this chapter the best organization Cal Poly has ever seen,” remarked Emerging Chapter President Tyler Meehleis during the induction. “We’re ready for the challenges ahead of us and are excited to be a part of an organization that will help us grow immensely as a group.”
Phi Delta Theta congratulates the re-founding of California Nu and looks forward to their efforts as they begin their journey toward the installation as a chapter.
