Accomplished equestrian Robert Jornayvaz is competing for the United States in Europe this summer. He brought home a win in France this June, and he is now competing in Two-Star Grand Prix events in Belgium and Portugal. Robert, a native of Denver, Colorado, is a junior at the University of Virginia and a member of the Virginia Beta Chapter of Phi Delta Theta. He is President of the UVa Show Jumper’s Club and was Co- President of UVa’s freshman architecture class.
Robert was recently a Silver Medalist at the Young Rider’s Competition in Lexington, Kentucky – the highest level of competition for show jumpers under 21-years-old in the United States. Robert has competed successfully throughout the US and Canada since he was 15.
Though a passionate rider, Robert’s greatest passion is the horses themselves. He believes this sport is about a partnership, and he meticulously cares for each horse and respects each of his jumpers as the amazing athletes that they each are.
Robert is also an accomplished polo player, and he competed in the US Open in Wellington, Florida in 2012. With a handicap of 1, Robert regularly plays in 12 to 20 goal polo tournaments coast to coast.
Also an entrepreneur, Robert co-founded the Collegiate Show Jumping Championship in Florida, where college teams jump off for individual and team
titles. He is also a partner in Horseplay Productions, a company that produces extreme sport films of equestrian events, specializing in drone and slow motion photography. When not in school or jumping, Robert travels with his partners to film polo events all over the world. He is also an avid song writer and guitar player.
