About Katie

Katie Rufener is the senior director of annual giving and advancement communications for the Phi Delta Theta Foundation. Katie joined Phi Delta Theta in 2018 after spending four years in alumni engagement with her alma mater, Monmouth College.

Katie’s role focuses on engaging every Phi as an annual donor and educating all Phis on their responsibility to give back to the organization. In her five years at Phi Delta Theta, she has facilitated the growth of the Phi Delt Fund from $450,000 to $1 million dollars annually. This annual growth is attributed to expanded member knowledge on the purpose of the Foundation, as well as the implementation of an annual giving day which focuses on expanding impact for the year.

Katie first learned about the values of Phi Delta Theta through the Illinois Gamma chapter at Monmouth College. In fact, two of her closest friends are Phi Delt’s she met while they were all in Greek life: Katie is a member of Alpha Xi Delta. She graduated from Monmouth with degrees in economics, business administration, and Spanish.

Katie resides in southern Wisconsin with her husband Steve where they enjoy working on their home, traveling, and teaching Steve all the chapters of Phi Delta Theta.

Why I enjoy working for Phi Delt

“I enjoy the relationships I’ve built with Phis, especially our outstanding volunteer core. It’s amazing to see the dedication that the volunteers have to Phi Delt, especially the students. I enjoy engaging with them, having candid conversations, and brainstorming ways we can advance the Foundation’s mission together. I send a big thank you to all of their families who have supported their involvement in the Fraternity.”
