Tennessee Alpha Phi Cory Tanner Owen was elected Student Body President at Vanderbilt University on March 19, 2014. As the Student Body President, Tanner will be the chief representative and advocate for over 6,500 undergraduate students at Vanderbilt. In an election separated by only 79 total votes — the closest in VSG history, Owen and running mate Fletcher Young received 50.92 percent of the total vote. Nearly 4,000 students voted in the election — a turnout of 59.98 percent, up more than 10 percent from last year.
Brother Owen has been involved in a variety of capacities previously in Student Government, including two terms as the Academic Senator for the College of Arts and Science. Additionally, Tanner is a Head Resident on the Ingram Commons at Vandy and serves on the Vanderbilt Programming Board. Within Phi Delta Theta, Tanner has served as Pledge Class President, Brotherhood Chair and Alumni Relations Chair.
Tennessee Alpha now holds the presidency in both Student Government and the Honor Council at Vanderbilt and has brothers in leadership roles in IFC as well.
