In his follow-up to the four-time Academy Award®-nominated blockbuster The Help, Mississippi Alpha (Ole Miss) Phi Tate Taylor directs 42’s Chadwick Boseman as James Brown in Get on Up. Based on the incredible life story of the Godfather of Soul, the film gives a fearless look inside the music, moves and moods of Brown, taking audiences on the journey from his impoverished childhood to his evolution into one of the most influential figures of the 20th century. Boseman is joined in the drama by Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Nelsan Ellis, Lennie James, Tika Sumpter, Jill Scott and Dan Aykroyd.
Taylor worked for 15 years in New York and Los Angeles and now lives in Mississippi. He debuted as a feature film director in Pretty Ugly People. He also directed the film The Help, based on Stockett’s novel The Help. She gave him rights to make the film adaptation in June 2008, before the book was published. The film was a major commercial success and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture.
