First of several dedicated funds at Canadian chapters
The Phi Delta Theta Canadian Foundation and several alumni of Manitoba Alpha are delighted to announce the formation of a dedicated endowed Manitoba Alpha Leadership Fund.
The fund will recognize outstanding undergraduate leaders of Manitoba Alpha and will allow alumni and friends of Manitoba Alpha to dedicate their donations to the fund to benefit undergraduate Phis at the University of Manitoba.
To date, the fund has commitments of over $125,000 and has a goal of $300,000 which would allow awards to be granted on an annual basis to qualified candidates who are leaders in their chapter, on campus, and in the community. Contributions to the fund – to be administered by the Canadian Foundation – are tax-deductible.
“The Canadian Foundation is pleased to work with a core group of Manitoba Alpha alumni to establish the fund and we see this as the first of other dedicated funds that can be established for other Canadian chapters,” says Rob McInnes, Chairman of the Canadian Foundation. “The appeal of dedicated funds is that alumni can direct their donations to the Canadian Foundation into a fund that will directly benefit undergraduate leaders at their own chapter.”
One of the driving influencers in bringing the Manitoba Alpha Leadership Award to life is Canadian Foundation Director Ken Ransby (Manitoba ’69). He notes, “Phi Delta Theta is making an important transformation to a fraternal organization that emphasizes leadership development and this endowed fund is intended to provide ongoing support for that.” Ken worked with John Zaplatynsky (Manitoba ‘68) and Ian Craigon (Manitoba ‘72) to design the fund.
